Christmas and New Year Orders

For anyone ordering petals over Christmas and New Year, please note that the lead time on most orders will be a full 10 working days due to the natural slow-down of the holiday period. I will still be able to take emails and advise on petals over the holidays, so if you have any questions at all please email sales@rosepetals.ie and I will get back to you as soon as I can (or as soon as I finish my 50th mince pie!). Lead times will improve in January when the Christmas trees come down and everything gets back to normal.

A big thank you to all our lovely customers who have supported rosepetals.ie in 2014. It's been a joy, and I've been so pleased to play a small part in your special days, weddings and proposals. I wish the best of luck to all the gentlemen proposing over Christmas and New Year! I hope she says 'Yes!' and it's the start of an incredible, happy journey for you all... and that the petals make your moment all the more romantic!

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Confetti Alternatives

Traditional confetti is colourful and fun.... and, well, a nice tradition. But today there are so many wonderful alternatives to consider, that are equally as fun and gorgeous for guests to happily toss at the newly married couple.

Dried petals are a beautiful, sweet smelling alternative and it's a bonus that they're biodegradable, so much more likely to be allowed by your church or venue than traditional confetti. They come in so many colours and mixes, so can fit in with a colour theme, and under normal conditions they don't stain, and they're also less slippery when wet. They're easy to pack into little organza bags or confetti cones and will be appreciated and enjoyed by both guests and the couple.

Of course we think dried petals are good for so many reasons, but if you're not quite convinced (or just need some more inspiration) than this post on Pop Sugar has some excellent ideas http://www.tressugar.com/wedding-Rice-Toss-Alternatives-17797382#opening-slide

Tip: Softening Your Freeze-Dried Petals

The freeze-dried petals are absolutely beautiful the way that they are, but if you would like to further 'soften' your freeze-dried petals - to give them a bit more suppleness and pliability - you can do so by placing an open container in a steamy bathroom (say after your morning shower) for 20-30 minutes so that they soak up the gentle moisture and regain an more of an elasticity and texture similar to fresh petals.

Please note that one you have softened your rose petals in this way it's best to use them the same day or within a few days, as adding moisture back to the petals means they will not last as long as they did when they were freeze-dried. For uses such as decorating aisles, tables or using as confetti

Keeping your petals freeze-dried means that they will last for months, even years, if you keep them in the right environment (a cool, dry, dark place such as a cupboard)

One for the guys! A Romantic Proposal

For any men out there thinking of proposing to the special women in their lives, this one is for you! You might be mulling how to propose, and trying to get creative with romantic ideas and special touches that will make the proposal a dreamy moment that you and your lady will remember for the rest of your lives... and I have some suggestions that might be of interest. Of course, these suggestions include petals!

How about scattering a path of rose petals from your front door to your kitchen where you have candles burning and a romantic dinner on a table scattered with petals? Or sexier still, a smattering of rose petals on your bed with a bottle of chilled champagne ready to pop? Something your lady might love is a ultra luxurious bath, again with candles, petals and champagne. All very intimate and sensual, and bound to show your girl how much thought and effort you have put into creating the ultimate romantic moment.

Even if you're planning something further from home, at a restaurant, a picnic, a hotel... or a special spot that you share with each other... petals will add colour and romanticism to almost any location and moment.

Best of luck with your proposal! I'm sure it will be a day to remember.

rosepetals.ie in the Autumn Issue of Confetti Magazine

We're delighted to be featured amongst the Pink Pages Bridal Directory of Confetti Magazine's new Autumn 2014 issue.

Flicking through glossy bridal magazines for pretty inspiration was one of the nicest parts of planning my own wedding last year. I had copies of all the magazines - finally being able to buy them after all the years of passing over them on newsagent shelves - and I have to say that I spent many a happy hour browsing through them (sometimes with a glass of bubbly!), picking up ideas and dreaming of my own big day.

I hope that some of this year's Brides-to-be gather some fab inspiration from Confetti Magazine's latest issue, as well as from our own rosepetals.ie site.

Let there be cake!

I'm dreaming of cake today (might have something to do with the fact that today is also my birthday!) so I thought I would share some ideas on how freeze-dried petals can be used to decorate a cake or cake display - and not just for weddings but for birthdays, anniversaries, showers, events...  or even to stun at a school bake sale.

Petals will add colour and excitement to almost every display quickly and easily. As they last for months, you can keep a box handy to decorate all kinds of cakes, cupcakes, an iced-loaf or a roulade... in fact they can be placed on - or around - almost any type of cake to create a real wow-factor.

You can scatter petals on the top of each tier of your wedding cake, or even just on the very top layer instead of a more traditional topper. They also look wonderful displayed around the bottom of your cake, or your cake stand/table, to add a punch of colour. You can disperse them randomly, or create shapes (such as a circle or heart) to create a colourful border. You can use one petal colour, every petal colour, or even create an ombré look (where the petals gradually go from light to dark). Just one or two petals placed on the top of an iced cupcake make it look mouth-watering and delicious - especially for a cupcake display/stand. Or a small handful of petals on a plain cake or loaf will bring it to life and make it extra special treat for a birthday party or afternoon tea with the girls.

Here are some petal decorating ideas from the fabulous Pinterest board Rose Petal Cake (http://www.pinterest.com/explore/rose-petal-cake)

Just remember, while the petals are natural and beautiful, we don't recommend actually eating them - just use them for a bit of added oomph when decorating.
